There are many hosting companies out there, from super cheap to super expensive and in the same time also super good or super bad. I bring you the best website hosting companies that are best at customer service, backup, security, quality of services and uptime.
A good web hosting company is defined by a number of services and qualities that we have measured for you. You essentially want:
- Fast website speed
- Customer Support
- Fast Ping
- 1-click Install Of CMS
- Domain and Email Control
- Backup Solutions
- Plenty of Storage Space
- Plenty of Traffic Allowance
You naturally want a fast website. The faster your site is being served to your visitor, the higher the chance that they will stay with your site. A site that takes more than 2 seconds to load (or less) can easily be too long for the average internet surfer and they will click your site away and go for a website that loads faster.
When you got your site up and running, you want to keep it up and running 24/7. Naturally servers need to be maintained and a small interuption is not something that you can avoid entirely, but it shouldn’t be happening all the time and every day.
Uptime is also depending on how busy the server is where it is hosted upon. Most websites are nowadays hosted shared, which means that the same physical server space is shared with several other website hosts. If one of these other sites (and most webhosting firms run around 200 websites per server) is clogging up the system resources, all other sites on that physical server will also suffer performance. The performance suffering is then translated into a slower website or even downtime.
Customer support is a very important factor for most people wanting to host a website, because problems are likely to occur when it is about web hosting and websites or email. A reachable and responsive customer support system through email, chat, a ticket system or by telephone is definitely more popular than an unreachable support system.
There are plenty website hosting firms that offer mediocre support, while they perhaps have great servers or great prices. If you are a very technical person, you perhaps do not need the customer support all that much, but in most cases and most people will have a question or two that need to be answered by a good customer support team.
Fast ping has much to do with the speed of the site in the regard of the server speed and the data line they got installed. Often there is also something to say about the geographical position, as some connections to some countries go by satelite, which makes access speed lower yet again. Most often however this has to do with the network of the provider, so this is also a criteria for finding a great hosting firm. You want your customers to reach your website as fast as anywhere else int he world.
1-Click Install Of CMS Systems
Most people build their website on a popular content management system such as WordPress, Magento or Joomla. These content management systems can be hard to install by yourself, but most firms offer a 1-click installation system to install these essential pieces of software.
Control Over Domain And Email
When you got your own website you want to own that domain name and have full access over it. That way you can control the different aspects rapidly and easily. You also would want to have email addresses on your own domain name hosted. This is not always as easy everywhere, but it is definitely something you would want to have control over.
A backup solutions is absolutely essential to make sure you always have a backup of your hard worked content on your site. Not only your images need to be saved, but also the database with all the content that you created. The hosting firm needs to make regular backups that are easy to access when in need.
It is very easy to do a mistake and lose a part of your site, but the essential more dangerous side of running a website is that it can get hacked. Having a backup of your business files, which includes your website is therefore essential, so that you can fix the missing files as soon as possible and keep your website up and running optimally.
Plenty of Storage Space
Although images do not need to be of the biggest size in most cases for your website, they will all together still take a decent amount of space on the server. They often also let email hosting count up to your storage space, meaning that if you are used to get very big emails in your email box, you suddenly might run out of storage space for your website.
When you make sure you got plenty of storage space, that will no longer be a problem for you.
Plenty of Traffic Allowance
Each visitor on your website will be downloading the content that they click on. Each download means traffic used for your site and hosting firms usually calculate that in their price for either the Gigabytes used per month in transfer, or the amount of visits to your site. Note that if one visitor clicks on 5 links on your site, that same visitor counts for 5 traffic.
Optional Managed Hosting
You can get managed hosting, which means you can take care of the content, while the provider makes sure that your site stays fast, safe and secure with the newest updates, has hardware and software to make your website faster and keeps hackers and spammers out.
To determine your hosting needs, check out my guide on how to find the best hosting for your needs.

#3 Hosting – GoDaddy
Although the opinions are a little divided on GoDaddy, many say that GoDaddy also offers excellent hosting and domain solutions.
My advice generally is to let GoDaddy do what they are good at, which is webhosting and register your domain through another firm that is specialised on domains, such as NameCheap. That way you have full control over your domain, while you let GoDaddy deal with what they are good at, the webhosting.
GoDaddy has also an excellent WordPress hosting plan which is partly managed and offers many of the same good values.
GoDaddy WordPress Basic (Shared Hosting)
- 9 USD per month
- 1 website (domain free when annual paid, otherwise extra cost)
- 10 GB storage
- 25K visitors / month
- sFTP Access
- 1-click setup
- 99.9% uptime
- free 24/7 support
What About Other Firms?
I have reviewed many other firms, but they simply didn’t manage to show a similar level of quality on all the criteria that I review them for. Most of them fail on customer service, while some also fail on delivering a fast and reliable web hosting service.
I tried to compare the different places, based upon price for the same type of offered service.
When you are thinking of setting up a website for an online business however, I would suggest you to join SiteRubix / Wealthy Affiliate. At Wealthy Affiliate there is simply so much offered for the same price and in most cases it will come out cheaper even. Just think about a service such as SSL. GoDaddy charges an extra 79USD per year for an SSL certificate, while SiteRubix offers this included in their package.
Wealthy Affiliate also offers you all the training and tutorials you will need to learn everything about affiliate marketing and making your online business a success!
